Whilst the title may make this article sound incredibly boring, vending machines have become an incredibly interesting form of marketing in recent years with the onset of technology. Recently those crazy people behind big brand marketing have realized that social media and viral marketing need not be confined to the internet and can in-fact be practised out and about.

5. Coca Cola: Happiness Machine For Couples

Bottom of our list because realistically when you’re dishing out happiness couples shouldn’t really be first on the list but the concept is still a good one. Just publicly display a kiss/hug or other legal proof that you are a couple and this machine will give you a can of Coke each.

4. British Columbia Tourism: Vending Machine Style

This gigantic vending machine is the most mysterious of our 5, principally due to how large it is. The need for this gigantic machine is soon explained when a curious customer pulls a full sized bicycle from the tray.

3. BOS Ice Tea: Twitter-Powered Vending Machine

A tried and tested way of getting your brand known is to give out free samples. But what if before they could have the sample your customer had to publicly advertise your product? Well in comes instant reward social marketing. Now days people are always looking for a reason to do something and what better reason than having a machine give you a free drink seconds after you tweet about it?

2. Rugbeer: Tackle The Vending Machine

This idea is a stroke of genius, take a beer vending machine round pubs in the Northern Salta province of Argentina (where Rugby is the sport based entertainment of choice) and see how it does. One twist, you have to tackle the machine before it’ll give you a beer. Oh and it’s even got a ‘Pussy meter’ to make sure you put some effort in.

1. Pepsi Company: Social Vending Machine

Going back to the social side of vending this impressively intelligent machine not only allows you to buy and select your own drink (from a good looking menu) but also allows you to purchase one for a friend that they can then pick up from any similar machine. All this machine needs now is a button to give away a free drink, there’s nothing that makes your day more, than kindness from a stranger, oh and free stuff.
