On Wednesday night Burberry held a preview of their new White capsule collection at their Burberry Brit store in Covent garden. CTR writer Rozie and I went along for a sneak-peek before the collection goes on general sale. A lovely warm spring evening just off Covent Garden piazza, The Burberry Brit store sits with it’s black frontage and tall windows bright and lit up. We walked in, checked off by the impeccably dressed PR staff, and took a tall, icy glass of Pimms each and set about admiring the delights of offer. We quickly discovered that the White collection is very capsule. We gave it a good once over and set off to ogle the delights the rest of the shop has to offer.
The overall store experience was good, though very crowded. Everything was beautifully presented, with the requisite mac and trench display taking centre stage on a podium with open umbrellas suspended above it. Large LCD displays and projections showed the new collection model by Sebastian Brice and Camilla Babbington, the guests mingled and chatted whilst enjoying Champagne and Aspall’s cider.
Our general feelings about the collection; there are some nice pieces, ones we would gladly own: a pretty, cream, floaty knee-length skirt and the belted white trench with chrome coloured buttons, which were agreed to be our favourites. The remainder felt a little ordinary; our least favourite being the tunic length, drop-waisted cream dress. Overall it feels like this is the sort of collection where you buy one item and style it with other pieces; the buttoned up cream chiffon blouse you could rock-up with some biker boots and a leather jacket. Satisfied there was no more to see, we headed out into the still warm evening. It is safe to say the any piece from this light and airy collection would be ideal for the heat wave we’re having right now, this collection isn’t ground breaking, but it was never meant to be.
