Nike have released their latest Destroyer jacket and with it a new campaign, Destroy To Create.

On November 13th 2010, In celebration of Nike sportswear’s latest icon, the destroyer jacket, and to launch the destroyer city jackets, a group of athletes, artists, and musicians converged on London’s 1948 to witness and perfrom in acts of creative destruction.

Upcoming british jewellery maker Duffy was given one of Mark Cavendish’s bikes to create a piece of jewellery through the destruction of the bike, during the video Duffy talks about the philosophy of art and how anything being created comes from destruction – paper used for art is made through the destruction of a tree. This is an interesting concept that makes you think about a lot of things created. Using the melted down bike Duffy created a perfectly carved life-size skull and a broach.

Several other artists from I Have Pop to Harry Malt were involved. To see the art that they have created then and to listen to their thoughts on the project then watch the video below.

What do you think of the campaign? Have the participating artists truly embraced “Destruction” to create their pieces of art? Let us know below or on Facebook.
