H&M seem to have a monopoly on awesome collaborations, and their A/W 2012 line is being promoted by the it-girl of the moment, Lana Del Rey. She seems a perfect partner for H&M; they cater for a multitude of styles, with affordable basics and consciously sourced collections available next to edgy and on-trend products aimed at a wide audience; She’s a style icon, pairing retro staples with modern mixed up accessories – as I said, a match made in heaven. So, it should not surprise us that the new H&M A/W 2012 collection is a muddle of modern prints and vintage inspired pieces, all made a bit sweeter by bucking this Autumn’s trend for dark hues and sharp tailoring, by having a fluffy and friendly approach to wrapping up warm.

The new collection includes a good range of knits; fuzzy angora appears numerous times in pale cream and peachy hues. Plum and black pop up in the form of skinny jeans, suede ankle boots and glossy heels. For those looking for a more patterned approach, you will not be disappointed in the signature inky floral design that appears on leggings, chiffon shirts and a fitted long sleeved shift.

Some pretty slick tailoring features, with leather look pencil skirts, peplum tops and a grey marbled fabric with leather detail form fitting dress. Lastly, the party element for the season is well represented; fuzzy fabric mini’s with sequin detailing, studded collar blouses and a glossy golden tee.

Del Rey pulls off the collection well; with bee-hive hair, big doe eyes and her signature acrylic nails, she is the pinnacle of sixties sex-pot meets modern miss. Her current it-status and rising star ensure that this collection for H&M will receive a huge amount of press and have their customers snapping up peach cable knit jumpers like there’s no tomorrow. I think this collection has hit the mark for this seasons, it’s differentiated from it’s competitors by going for something a little retro and it creates that comfy and cosy feel we all want at this time of year, whilst the styling remains chic and timeless.

About Alex Bucktin

I'm a graphic designer for a London ad agency but being creative isn't just a 9-5 thing for me. Its part of everyday life. I have an unhealthy obsession with typography, I ski like I have a death wish and my ideal afternoon would be spent walking the dogs and baking french macaroons. I collect china tea cups and shoes, and have no idea what I want to be when I finally grow up.
