In early Spring 2012 British fashion brand Mulberry launched their latest offering of fabulousness, The Del Rey. A handbag inspired by the nostalgic glamour of American singer Lana Del Rey, it is framed as a modern classic: all practicality, simple refined elegance and timeless, crafted luxury.
Mulberry have gone even further to promote their gorgeous new baby, by producing a ‘making of’ video of the step-by-step processes that go into producing The Del Rey. It was filmed at The Rookery, Mulberry’s British factory in Somerset at the very heart of the brand’s heritage. The video pays tribute to the attention to detail and careful hands that bring a Del Rey bag to life, set to the music of Lana Del Rey’s single Summertime Sadness.
The nicest thing about this video is the opportunity to see how a beautifully crafted, luxury product actually comes together, and to see the care and attention that you are paying for when you purchase an iconic Mulberry bag. It is refreshing for a brand to be honest and open about how their products are produced, and to let you into their world, even for just a few minutes.
The Del Rey is currently available in five finishes, as well as Black Forest and Petrol from the current Autumn Winter 2012 colour palette. In September new versions will be launched, including; Gold Metallic Snake Print, Ink Blue Sparkle Croc Print and Bark Brown Metallic Fur Print, all of which debuted on the London Fashion Week catwalk during Mulberry’s show in February. You can buy them directly from Mulberry now.
