We recently did a track pack of the Canadian electro duo, The Girls Can Hear Us. Since posting we’ve had a lot of good feedback about it, so I decided to get in contact with the band and get a brief interview with them, to give you all an insight into what goes into their music.

Hi there Will. For anyone who doesn’t know about you guys, could you please break down your roles in The Girls Can Hear Us? Who does what?

Ed produces the beats and I take care of the vocals.

Who would you say are your main influences, both contemporary and of all time?

Daft punk is Ed’s favourite artist, but I find I’m more influenced by personal experience than any artist in particular. If I had to pick people though, my favourite rappers are Mos Def & Royce Da 5 9.

Where do you see your main musical focus in the future? Do you intend to focus more on remixing other people’s tracks, or producing your own from scratch?

We try to have a balance between remixing and original work. We’ll likely keep it around 80% original and 20% remixes. Maybe 77 / 23…have to think about it…

What kind of equipment and software do you mainly work with?

Mostly typewriters and large mallets. Ed also has a personal computer.

What’s the electro scene like in Ontario? Do you get much local support?

Our local fan base had been great! Our friends and local fans are extremely supportive. They get down and we love them.

If you could get anyone else to remix one of your songs, who would it be, and why?

Daft Punk because they are the best. That being said ANYONE who wants to do a remix just email us and we’ll send you stems! We are very big on hearing new takes on our work and collaborating. Just drop us an email if you’re interested!

How integral do you think social networking is to the success of upcoming artists?

It’s vital ; don’t really even know how we would do things effectively without that aspect. We’re really trying to promote the use of our Twitter and Facebook pages at the moment, and would really appreciate the support of fans on those sites! I genuinely love hearing from people, so if they wanna add me to FB or whatever that’s great!

The Girls Can Hear Us will be dropping an album later this Summer, so make sure you keep an eye out for these guys!
