One of our favourite rappers here at CTR, Childish Gambino, has finally released his hotly anticipated new EP today. Titled “Royalty”, it features a series of collaborations including Beck, Ghostface Killah, Danny Brown Josh Osho, and even the famous comedian Tina Fey.

The man behind the persona, Donald Glover, is one of the most versatile celebrities working at the moment and at the young age of 28 has achieved success in music, acting (one of the stars of Community, starred in his own film “Mystery Team”, as well as starring in “The Muppets Movie”), writing (he was one of the head writers on NBC’s 30 Rock), and stand up comedy.

His debut album was released last year, and was received very positively by everyone except Pitchfork. He’s also had a string of mixtapes over the years which are available for free download online.

This latest release, Royalty, is also available on free download and consists of 18 new tracks with a wide variety of collaborations.

Whilst it’s early days and hard to make a judgement just yet, I’m a bit apprehensive about the release based on the leaks we’ve heard already. I’m personally more of a fan of his more melodic tracks, and a lot of the leaks seem to have harsher beats which are quite a step away from Camp. However, have a listen, and make up your own mind!
