I’m happy to introduce you guys to New Zealand artist Janine and the Mixtape, with this being her first track it definitely shows scope for a future star. Making her own beats and with a punchy vocal that seems reminiscent of a slightly tamer Florence she’s sure to make big movements for the rest of this year.

The track, Bullets, has an urban, grungy edge to it that compliments the very simple yet ethereal bass & hi-hat track. The visuals leave a little to be desired, though it’s to be expected from a new artist with a limited budget; that doesn’t excuse the Mac Miller-esque equilateral triangles however.

Her aesthetic echoes her beats, very minimalistic but defined, wearing all black with an extremely prominent rope chain – something a little refreshing in a scene filled with electric tones and more flesh than material. Check the video below.

What’d you think of the track, one for the summer or one for the bin?
