I begrudgingly bring you guys the new Lana Del Ray video for her new track “Carmen”, harping back to the Video Games feel for this video, hashing together a plethora of clips with a post-production vintage feel.
It almost seems like a copout, ‘What made me blow up…’, ‘Let’s do the exact same thing’. After some of the ferocious criticisms that have been sent her way following some lacklustre live performances I can see why the management would be quick to crawl back into the safety of what they know works, however I’m a little bewildered they didn’t wait just that bit longer for this tactic.
I love the song itself, bringing with it that ethereal quality that Lana (or her producer) does so well. Discussing a presumably fictitious girl named ‘Carmen’ who drives all the boys wild, perhaps if Beth Ditto performed this in the same manner I’d believe it to be candid, with Lana however it just seems a little too tailored to speaking for the troubled youth.
Let us know what you thought of the video, a clever tip of the hat to Video Games – or a poor attempt to claw back those lost dollars?
